Description

I

• Open fracture, wound < 1 cm in length, no severe contamination

II

• Open fracture, wound > 1 cm but < 10 cm in length, no severe contamination

III

• IIIA extensive soft tissue injury, bony structures still adequately protected

• IIIA extensive soft tissue injury, bony structures not adequately protected / periosteal stripping or severe contamination of the wound

• IIIC: open fracture with arterial injury or almost complete traumatic amputation requiring treatment.
