No systematic review has been performed for this module. The available literature describes the risk factors of patients with necrotizing otitis externa. However, to adequately assess when necrotizing otitis externa arises, one should preferrably examine cohorts of patients with otitis externa otitis externa for long periods of time. These cohorts should be large considering the low incidence of necrotizing otitis externa and also be prospective in nature.
