Knowledge gaps

Systematic reviews of randomised controlled trials have shown clear benefits of antenatal corticosteroids prior to anticipated preterm birth up to 34⁺⁶ weeks of gestation; there is insufficient evidence to support their use from 35⁺⁰ weeks gestation.

Further studies of higher quality and larger sample sizes are required to investigate the effects of maternal corticosteroid administration prior to planned caesarean birth at term.
